OK
I figured this thread would be OK as everyone regular here seems interested, sooo
tonight I see 'THE MOVIE"...which they already claim to be movie of the year.
It is in limited release, like one theater in every 15 will show it.
I heard this is because it didn't have a preview viewing and this may
be a foreshadow for a notoriously horrible movie, so movie distributors
wait till people actually see it before committing so many reels to view.
Will give the review with NO GIVEAWAYS tomorrow evening.
Is this ok with you Rhino?
Thx.

Hello Folks...
I have just returned from my ACROSS THE UNIVERSE experience, and I am
COMPLETELY SPELLBOUND.
It goes without saying that this movie has touched the heart and soul of every movie go-er in the crammed Cinemaplex from which we emerged...transformed by the images and feelings portrayed on the big screen this evening.
The characters...one named Jude (Jim Sturgess) lives in Liverpool...his travels lead him to NJ of all places...
In the story's progression we see the endearing Lucy (Evan Rachael Wood)
She is connected to a guy named Max (Joe Anderson) who befriends Jude.
Then there's the Rock Star Sadie (Dana Fuchs) who takes them all in.
Before long love is in the air and all Hell breaks loose!

Without giving away too much, other characters come into their lives as War and Politics overshadow the true meaning throughout the entire film...and that is
"Love has no boundaries"....
Love binds us, crosses the horror of war and fields of green, lays waste the despair and anguish that life weighs upon us..it drives us to choices and helps us become better people.....
None the lesser person I walked away feeling down....like I wanted more..
The movie has you from start to finish and you leave needing a fix.
So, I listen to Sgt Pepper's and Im getting by "With a little help from my friends"
The 60's were done justice in the imagery, emotions and settings superbly directed  by Julie Taymore...and the storyline written by Clement and La Frenais
will endure the years as a classic storytelling of true love amidst tragedy.

In the shadow of the movie...I recall well choreographed dance scenes...
All of the music fit PERFECTLY in the story, as if songs written over 40 yrs ago were written only yesterday for this movie.
Joe Cocker and Bono appear as enigmatic characters, but never steal the show for one second.
I leave that title to Jim Sturgess...he sung the songs like they were his own, coming from the heart as if to mirror his own true experiences...he was perfect for the role.
But the Biggest Congratulations to the Beatles...
For whom this Movie would not be possible, thanks guys, wherever you may be..
(Preferably looking down at me)
I see this film as a nominee for an Academy award as Best Musical, and Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Soundtrack.
It may not end there...but thats all i can think of..
In the end, the entire audience stood up and clapped..
I can't remember the last time there was a standing ovation at a movie theater,
but tonight there was........and I did.
In a Rave, and a Yellow Submarine, I resign....

PS==
BUY THE SOUNDTRACK!!!! INCREDIBLE!!

I also just got back from "Across The Universe".... I was not "blown-away" so to say as I thought I was g0nna be..but I did really like it.... If you love The Beatles and U wanna a different take on a lot of their songs then this is a great film for you.... I dont wanna spoil any of it for you but there were some awesome cameo's and the special effects, costumes were out of this world..  One of the better films I have seen in a  while..  I give it 3 outta 4 stars IMHO

Im glad that Mr Ebert had the vision and taste to give the film its just due.
My wife and I both went to see the film together. I just discovered
after seeing this film that tonight was going to be a great night for romantics..
(Do I dare copy Johan's trademark snicker....nah,....Im not a copy cat)
Needless to say the movie made us feel 21 again, so many times over.
At one point in the movie Jude reflects while the half naked Lucy sleeps....he sings the ever favorite "Something", a song that I have always placed upon my wife
whenever I heard it. (We been together since'81) It brought tears to her eyes.
I don't think there was a dry eye in the place.....
Needless to say I hope you all enjoy this movie, even The Mrs wants to see a 2nd time..(and that never happens)
Poooor ole me.
BTW Maryellen, thank you very much for your gracious words....I was class writer graduating class Memorial HS 1983. Always enjoyed the word.
