For a young man in high school, I was devastated when the original four members of ASIA ceased to exist.  I was so bummed when I was sure that I would never hear new music from my absolute favorite band again.  A few years later when I found "Lyin to Yourself" on the flip side of "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" in the cut out bin, way in the back of an old record store, I was excited beyond belief that there was another song from the original four that I didn't know existed.  Its amazing the things that are so important to you when you are a kid!

Twenty-five years later, I'm feeling a little like a kid again.  I have not felt this excited for the release of a new album since ALPHA!  I feel like ASIA - PHOENIX has been sitting under my Christmas Tree for 25 years and I'll finally get to open it on April 11th!!!!!!!

I'm just wondering how much everybody is looking forward to April 11th.  Also, I'm wondering how Johan is feeling.  Are you giddy with excitement and looking forward to presenting the new ASIA masterpiece?  Are you nervous? HOW ARE YOU FEELING!

Now, if I can just find my old ASIA belt buckle!?

58 days to go

Funny RD, I feel much the same as you do. Strange but I recall all three times (who, when, where) I first heard music from Asia, Alpha and Astra played on the radio, even Days Like These when it was first aired on WNEW-FM when Scott Muni had John and Geoff on in London back in '90.

How things change too. I bought Asia in a Sam Goody as I did with Alpha and Astra in a Crazy Eddie's. Both of those chains are long gone which says a lot of the retail industry these days. Phoenix will most likely come by way or internet sales. How far we've all come in 25 years, right?

Good stuff JK!  I bought both ASIA and ALPHA at a Flipside in Chicago, which is where I bought my belt buckle as well!

And I remember sitting by my families downstairs radio, patiently waiting for WMET to play the new release "Dont Cry".

To be young again!

RD, you mention the belt buckle and it made me laugh. It's funny because I had this little prize possession of mine. It was this little three inch blue duffle bag with a white Asia logo screened on both sides. I think I won it at the Boardwalk. Anyway, I still have it. I kept that thing with me through college, when I played minor league ball, I always kept some coins in it (NYC Subway token, silver dollar, buffalo nickel, indian penny). I was superstitious (hey, I'm Irish, what do you want) but it has been with me a long time and has long eclipsed the novelty of a being a little piece of memorabilia which is why I think the band has meant so much to me over the years as it has transcended boundaries so to speak. It's one of my good luck charms to say the least.

I know we want to hear the songs & music but with Asia, you get that plus the bonus of great musicianship AND that Roger Dean cover art. A sneak peak would be cool!

YES,YES,YES,Rising Dragon, Hell YES. This is the post, this is the attitude I love.  I am ecstatic, right now, there is "nothing" more important to me than holding, looking, opening carefully, and pressing play on this baby (Is that wrong? I can't help it.). We're having a blast.

RD U painted such an awesome picture in my mind of your story about you being a kid and all into AsiA and I could only imagine what it must have been like in 82 raging face .. and to t0p it 0ff AsiA is and always will be your band as in in your time they were the band that you connected to ... I found that later on in my life and I was still so thrilled to learn the music of All members of AsiA before I knew of AsiA..Im just so siked for a new AsiA album!!!

RD...You have no idea how much I agree with your post!  I feel like a 14-15 year old kid again as well.  The Original 4....which to me is the only Asia...is my all time favorite group.  They have been with me since my 8th grade summer back in 1982.  Alpha and Don't Cry remind me so much of a certain group of shore friends and my first love way back in the summer of 1983. Astra reminds me of Senior year of high school...and the long awaited third album.   But without the original 4 members...it just wasn't the same.  I plan on buying a lot of Phoenix copies when it is released!  I hope to give them to some of my clients that remember Asia and enjoy good music! The reunion has been a dream come true for me.  I have seen them now 9 times over the past 2 years.  I have tickets to 5 more shows this April.  My wife thinks I'm crazy, but understands how long I have waited for this event.  This is "My Band"....and I'm going to see them as much as I can.  It's really amazing having them back!  A true blessing to all the REAL fans out there.  I just hope that Steve, John, Carl, and Geoff really are aware of how much we the fans appreciate all of this! This is the music of our youth...our teenage years..the best care free years of our lives!  Asia's music was the theme songs to so many of our life experiences back then.  I can't listen to Don't Cry without thinking of Kathleen McClear from Brielle NJ and the summer of 1983.  It just transports me back to Belmar NJ, and walking on the beach with her hand in hand! What the hell did I know back then!  I was a stupid care free kid! But these memories stick with you and so do the bands and music that were popular at the time. Asia was that band for me....and still is today.  So RD...I'm with you my man 110%....and I most likely won't sleep the night before in anticipation of listening to Phoenix.  I'll never grow up...and frankly....who really wants to!  LOL!!  Take Care!

RD, Art, et.al. - you said it! Likewise I haven't looked forward to a new album release this much since ALPHA! I never had an ASIA belt-buckle, but I think I still have my old velcro wallet with the ASIA logo on the outside!

I wish I could find an old art project from the 10th grade - carved a relief print of the ALPHA eagle flying past the palms from the back of a linoleum square, inked it up & then made prints on nice paper. Unfortunately I nearly gouged my own palm when the cutting tool slipped! (still have a tiny scar under my pinky to this day)

RD ~ You got the "Here Comes The Feeling" feeling ALL wrapped up PERFECTLY in that! YES ~ anticipation is driving me crazy! We know it is going to be great, and can't wait! Back in '82 it was SO hard, since the debut came out, and we were in LOVE with Asia, yet they didn't tour around us in Norwalk! Oh how times had changed when they actually CAME to Norwalk for the Oyster Festival!!!!!!!!!!!  I am just SO excited that not only will I be seeing Asia for the 3rd time in 2 years, but having a NEW CD released is beyond my wildest dreams! AWESOME!!!!

Wow 82' that was a pretty accurate description of how most here feel.
Unfortunately it IS one of those either you get them or you don't...
I was privy to the Dwezel plays Zappa show last year prodded by a friend and while I appreciated the great respect Dwezel has for his father.(the big screen duets on the same guitar were very heart felt) I just didn't get it.
The music that is...

AZIA was billed as pop in 82 and seen that way by most...we all knew them to be so much more, and therein lies the musical appreciation. ( I'm with you on taking in as many shows as possible before the Sheriff hangs up his spur's)

This ASIA energy is awesome to hear!!!  Remember back in the eighties when you would open a new album, carefully place the needle on the record, lay back on your bed and read the liner notes, lyrics and stare at the cover art - while the songs blasted through the stereo speakers!?

I think I may have to recreate this scenario when Phoenix comes out.  The only difference is that a laser will have to replace the needle, and high powered glasses will be needed to read the notes, lyrics and cover art!

But a bonus for this century - I don't share a room with my sister anymore Luckily the Gemini force was in effect - we usually liked the same music. But I bought Asia first
