Howdy John and all,

Has anyone heard anything about any tour info for Asia this year? I recall after the success Asia had at B.B. King's in New York City in September 2014, they were to be offered another gig there in 2015.

It would be great to see the band again before the next album comes about :-)

Peace,

Jeff

PS This is topic 1982 on the guestbook; how cool is that?

Hello Conan, went to the Xtreme Guitar gig at the Arcada last night in St. Charles, talked to the promoter, asked if ASIA ware touring in 2015  he said, in the fall.  but, he had them at the Arcada the last three times and he is passing on them this time around.  Wants to skip on them for a year or so.  So depending on how honest he was, take it as you will.

Hopefully someone else will pick up the option and Chicago can have ASIA back (hopefully for a FULL ASTRA set)

  Cheers.

Jorge,

I saw Asia at the Arcada in 2014 and 2012.  When was the third time they performed there?  I've also seen them at the Park West and House of Blues, but I did miss at least one of their Chicago area shows due to other commitments.

Was it Ron Onesti you talked to about about Asia touring in 2015?  The 2014 show didn't seem to sell as well as the 2012 show, so hopefully that wouldn't be a reason not to have them back if they were indeed touring in 2015.  I had kind of assumed that we wouldn't hear much from Asia this year so that the members could pursue other projects, not to mention I haven't heard anything from the band that's really Asia related recently, but as far as I can tell none of them appear to be touring in the second half of the year.

I did come across a short video about their 2012 show at the Arcada.  It's as much a plug for the theater as it is about Asia, but I've included the link below.

Hi John, I know they did play there at the Arcada in 2012 and last year.   Of course the Park West show and then there were TWO HOB shows, different years.  As for Ron even though he does has the Arcada, he does promote shows allover the city.  Including the Chicago Theatre, Elgin Parkway and I forget where else.   So it is possible he might have done one of the HOB shows.   Will just have to wait and see.

FIngers crossed. [smile]

I attended 2 of the 2014 shows, the first being ASIA's opener in Norfolk, CT. which had a decent crowd but the Hartford show a few nights later was virtually empty. John actually jokingly commented on it. The band sounded incredible both evenings. I hope the loss of Steve does not hurt the band, Sam is quite good.

Howdy all,

Considering how good the band currently sounds, and the fact they are still producing new music, it is disconcerting to hear that Steve's absence may have had such a negative impact on the number of fans who have attended the more recent shows.

B.B. King's was sold out, which is what led to the band being asked to possibly play there this year. It would be a drag that they might not due to other venues not being as willing, or able to book them based on the previous tour's attendance.

What was the attendance like at other venues besides those mentioned above?

Peace,

Jeff

If I were to guess, I would say their show at the Arcada in St. Charles, IL last fall was around 75% full, and close to sold out in 2012 at the same venue.

South Florida had no shows last year, so my wife Shannon and I flew to the L.A. area /ASIA\ show in Beverly Hills. It was one of the final nights of the GRAVITAS Tour in America last October. The Saban Theater (a *gorgeous*, historic venue) was packed for this show. The balcony had some empty rows in the back, but the floor was nearly sold out for sure.

Great night of (prog) people watching, too!

I got to say hi to and get pre-show pics with Billy Sherwood of Yes (and RAISED IN CAPTIVITY collaborator), and Keith Emerson of ELP. Sam Coulson of /ASIA\ had dinner at the same place I did next door, and took pix with Dennis, Christine, and my wife and I (Sam is a SUPER nice guy!!!). Someone else saw Danny Carey of 90s prog-metal band Tool there too.

If my Los Angeles area show was any indication, this incarnation of /ASIA\ can still sell tickets!!

(CODA: When I saw the variety of music stars out for this one show alone, it made me realize just how well respected John - with his bandmates - truly remains in the music community. I saw a bespectacled Keith in row 7 watching the performance very, very keenly. Every band has their fans, but when your peers are coming out en masse to see you play, then you know its a special group of musicians. Its not just "US" on this Guestbook who "get" John and his music...)
