I know the classic Asia line up did not record this album but I would love to be able to hear the 4 originals do versions of Voice Of America, Go and Too Late...... would be great to see how Steve plays Mandy's guitar parts.

This is like Yes.
Fans have been wanting Yes to perform songs from Drama album and songs from ABWH.

I'm guessing Jon doesn't wanna sing Tempus Fugit and Chris doesn't wanna play Brother Of Mine.

Is this how it is with Astra?
Will Steve ever consider performing these songs at some point, all this a more might be found in the future I'm guessing.

I'm thinking that both bands are more on the lines that the past is the past with some things. Even though fans may be waiting for certain things, the bands may just want to let things be. Not every song that has ever been done will be done again, sometimes even though there are some songs that individual fans remember, they just don't get done again. They become something for some fans who have heard these songs to savor. To put it another way, sometimes the past IS truly the past. There is a time too, I guess,to just let it be~ iffin' ya know what I mean. Though it would be quite cool if it happened, don't get me wrong!

I think it has been said in the past that the Asia tours would focus on what the four original members created. As far as Astra, the opportunity to hear some of those those would be with Icon.

after this last tour i am glad to see bygones be bygones. but i can't see SH playing Astra. even though i seen SH play 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' with Trevor Rabin and Yes on YouTube, i don't want to push my luck. Icon is supposed to play a few Astra songs on the next tour. if it happens, GREAT! but i won't hold my breath. BTW, i would love to hear 'Hard On Me', 'VOA', or 'Go' with Steve. once again i am not going to hold my breath.

pete   suPP playa!!!    FYI SH also played 'Owner Of A Lonley Heart" during the YES Union tour and in 2002 tour and also YES played a acoustic version for the 35th Anniversery tour in 03... When I saw SH play at the Cubbie Bear solo he also teased it and d00d pete it gets better ..remember in Chicago HOB AsiA when SH teased "Owner Of A Lonley Heart" before g0ing into "Heat Of The Moment" during encore.. I swear he did it. maybe SH was making sure he was in Tune because b0th songs start in A.. but I think SH Deff played it.... I was amazed !! im still amazed !!

I seem to remember Trevor Rabin mentioning in an interview long ago that he was in an early incarnation of Asia, prior (or maybe in addition) to the "original" line-up.

Any truth in the rumour that the guitar intro to Owner of a Lonely Heart is a response to the guitar intro to Heat of the Moment?

And how come the production on Alpha sucked so much compared to the first album, where everything sounds so huge, given that the musicians and producer were the same, only the studio changed.

Was it: technology? Or something else?

If you read the book "Heat of the moment" this topic gets discussed.

Just had to chime in.  Astra be it all members or not, is still an important part of the bands history.  I think with SH's maturity and good will, playing Astra cuts would be not so insulting.  In fact, I would be most excited to see what Steve would do and think everyone would agree his input would improve the quality of the music.  Think of it as a challenge.  Mandy would tend to just copy the basic melody in his solos.  Can you imagine Steve giving it the "Midnight Sun" solo treatment?  Besides, playing other members' material in the Yes reunions has never seemed to be a problem in the past for Steve.  Cmon, what's the big deal???  Not to mention, I saw Steve playing "Aqua" material on the tour back in the mid 90's. I know its ultimately their decision and most likely won't happen but a small part of me is still "Prayin' for a Miracle"(I know, different album).

This one has been beaten to death before.  No offense to anyone new who didn't know.

I have read that Steve did work on some of the Astra material before things became messy.  Those songs would be relavent if the guys wanted to go down that corridor.

Keep in mind.  You will kill the poor Johan if you expect him to play 10 minute Yes songs, with a Chris Squire base lines, and expect him to sing as well.  It is kind of like asking Jessie Owens to run the 400m and juggle at the same time.

I would like to see a SH/JW jam.  Listening to 'Fanfare' from Liverpool Johan can rip.  I remember reading a recent interview with SH commenting how amazing JW was on base when they first met.  That would be an interesting jam to see and hear.

I do have an old ATOLL album with 3 extra Wetton tracks recorded in Paris when JW was in the band, circa 80/81.

Of interest to ASIA fans are early versions of HERE COMES THE FEELING and EYE TO EYE. There's also a "bi-lingual" tune called NO REPLY (PAS DE REPONSE).

There's also a groovy pic of John with ATOLL on the CD insert.
