Johan:

Leafing through the ASIA Gold CD insert, I noticed in one of the pictures that you are playing what appears to be a Kramer Pioneer Carrera bass.  These basses were all black including the body, the hardware, even the strings were web coated black!!  A few questions for you:  1) Was there anything 'special' about that particular guitar or was it just another tool in the toolbox at the time? 2) Do you remember liking it for any specific reason (e.g. sound, playability, etc.)? 3) Did you ever use it to record with (ASIA era or solo) or was it primarily a live instrument?

Thanks.

I had two black Kramers. One was a Fender P-type--I think the one you're referring to,and a Steinberger copy. I never recorded with either,or played live with them. They looked nice. That's about it.

Yes, I was referring to the P-Bass style guitar.  Very interesting.  I'd be curious where that photo of you in the ASIA Gold insert was snapped (page 11 in the CD booklet).  It looks like you're on stage.  Either way, it's a great photo!

Those Carrera basses (as are many other 80's era Kramers) are becoming kind of rare birds.  If you've still got it, hold on to it.  I agree.  They sure were nice looking axes.

Thanks again.
