Johan,

On recordings of live versions of this song there was usually an added verse..

And I dont know if these are the correct words, mind you..

"Well, I argued with the judge/
But the bastard wouldn't budge/
'Cause they caught me licking fudge/
and they never told me once/
you were a minor/
Easy Money."

Was just wondering if this was added as an inside joke or added just as a clever turn of phrase that you enjoyed singing..

So, John, are you singing "licking" or "leaking"?

I bet the version you did on The Midnight Special had to be altered yes? I saw that show and now that I see they are releasing all the performances I have been hounding them to make sure that King Crimson and Genesis get on these, but the person I spoke with said those bands were not in the dvd listings "at this time."

I was bummed beyond belief. I do think if enough fans could e-mail/phone blitz them they may change their minds about their ommission.

Ah,the wisdom of the network. KC and Genesis were not really mass-acceptable then,so why,35years later, would it be any different? Probably both bands got on the show because,as Atlantic Records and Premier Talent stable mates, these companies had monstrous bargaining power. The fact that we both had burgeoning fan bases was probably irrelevant.I used to date a Midnite Spec executive (yes,I was a toy-goy),and she told me a little about how acts were selected, and it was usually down to whether or not you had a new record out, were on tour, etc.
It's 'licking' by the way--- this was in an era when Political Correctness was just a whim.

John, how did you "clean up" that section for NBC? Or did you drop that verse altogether?

I didn't see the show on TV, because I was not born yet , but I have seen the DVD release of The Midnight Special from 1973, and sadly there is no KC or Genesis on that. Do you really think they would consider another edition?
