John Wetton was an absolute gem.

We'll never quite see the likes of him again.

A lot of excitement today on Twitter and social media, as John's wife Lisa, son Dylan, and longtime friend and manager Martin fly the flag high for JW's legacy ... Every birthday is a time to reflect. But this one seems poignant.

A tour launches tonight in Bethlehem, PA.

A part of me struggles, because I loved John's writings, his voice, his warm persona so much. I'm going to miss him.

But I check myself - as a FAN, I have to ask myself "Yes I miss him - dearly... but is it any harder for me, than it is for GEOFF? Or for CARL, or for MARTIN making this happen?"

I think we're on a similar plane.

John Wetton was special. He CAN'T be replaced... so nobody will replace him. But when this new lineup of /ASIA\ blasts off on this tour - they're going to be doing God's work with the music, spreading the message and energy of what John lived for. Some will not be able to come out - too raw... and I understand that. But I hope that many WILL...

"The Royal Affair Tour" is going to be the closest thing to High Voltage, Cruise To The Edge, or the California Jam that many American fans will get to see in this century. It's a big deal.

I look forward to the sea of /ASIA\ T-shirts... mingling with YES shirts, and ELP shirts, and Moody Blues shirts. The volume of songs we love in ONE NIGHT may never see the likes of such a tour again. I have my ticket to Hollywood, Florida (near Miami)… and I hope to high five or talk with some of you there.

We can't get back what has been lost - but we can come together and celebrate the way their SONGS still make us feel.

For RAY THOMAS...
For KEITH EMERSON...
For GREG LAKE...
For CHRIS SQUIRE...
For JOHN WETTON.

I look forward to seeing some of you on the road at the "Royal Affair".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, John. We'll never forget you...

- Douglas

There never has been nor ever will be Asia without JW, big mistake carrying on this iconic band with their current lineup, tribute or not. Carl is in it for the money and GD just doesn't say no to anything. Very sad to see, miss you JW.
