I know of a friend whose high school aged daughter was required to report for work today at 4am so mad shoppers can satisfy their Black Friday-itis.

Now, in years past when my kids were of the "Toys R Us" age, I was one of those mad idiots up at the crack of dawn. But to have seventeen year old driving at night, bleary eyed and in a turkey coma so someone can get 25% off a scarf for Aunt Fannie...I stayed home on principle alone. I remember when holidays were holidays. Yes, I like having the odd convenience store open but when stores are open full shift during a holiday, things have sure changed. Maybe that sounds hypocritical, sorry if it does.

I hope everyone had a happy holiday as well as a safe one!

There were stores open and offering special deals ON Thanksgiving too, which just isn't right. I work at a newspaper and we ran the story along with a picture of a man eating his turkey dinner while in line at a store. That's just sad. And next to him in line was a nine year old boy and his father. What a Thanksgiving for the child, huh? It's true too we think about, Oh! sales! and don't think about the teenager that has to work. Until I worked at a newspaper, I never thought about the fact that someone had to work on Christmas so I could have my paper the day after.

I just saw a story on the news the other day about how Europeans are flocking to NYC to shop because of the weak American dollar.  That even Virgin Airlines are doing shopping trips special.  So I imagine it is a day from Hades in NYC stores today.

Me?  There seems to be some positives to being broke today. :-)

Hey guys, you can't say for sure that Lady N Shade googles everything.
You don't know her that well.
She may have a Post Doctorate in Literature or Liberal Arts from a school like Southwest Abilene State Teachers College or possibly, she learns many of these interesting facts at her local Beauty Parlor.
The girls can't talk about their ex husbands all day,Ya know.
The only real fact that I know about LNS is that she once left a message on Paulie's cell phone telling him that she wanted to marry him and if he refused, she might be do something drastic.
That's it.
BTW,I'm not repeating hearsay,I listened to the Message.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  It was especially memorable this year because both my parents' 57th wedding anniversary and my mom's 75th birthday fell on Thanksgiving.

I had a nice T-Day, and I wasn't happy about one of the stores I wanted to go to (because of the good sales, naturally) opening at 4 a.m., but I was there, amongst the hundreds of other folks.  As usual, the mall & surrounding stores were packed as the morning wore on.

Boz:  Mom and Dad actually had the Thanksgiving Dinner at heir house.  No box of chocolates, but Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie and the cake I got for their anniversary and her birthday.  She actually uses the throwaway Chinet plates (less dishes to wash) and my brother always teases her about it.

On a more serious note, this was the first time we didn't get to have dinner with my nephew.  He went full active duty a couple of weeks ago in the army and is taking his basic training in Missouri.  His new wife and baby daughter were there with my sister but we won't get to see him until Christmas when he gets his first leave.

Hope you had a great holiday!
