I gotta agree about HOB, too, unfortunately.  At the Cleveland HOB, during the first part of the show, the ladies/wait staff actually offered trays of "sample shots" of some sort or other between us, and some of them were lit!  'Twas very strange...and quite annoying.  They seemed to stop making rounds at some point, or perhaps I just wasn't paying attention...

While the shots certainly didn't change my enjoyment of the show, it certainly could explain the loud fans mid-show. Well, that 'volume' could also just be Cleveland folk, admittedly.  All that nasal-ness, short 'As' and hard 'Rs'....

Granted, the HOB environment is not the best for a concert, per se.  However, everyone there at Chicago wanted to be there for Asia - they didn't just walk in and pay a $38 cover charge for the privilege of paying for $5 beers and $9 mixed drinks!  My question is - why even play venues with such distractions like that, when there are plenty of appropriate size concert halls/theatres in cities where there is a HOB?

I know nothing, of course, but I'd go there again, and have been to a dozen or so HOB shows in the past few years.....I was simply agreeing that alcohol seems to be their focus.

However, for a reasonable ticket price, HOBs are also always clean, conveniently located, advertise their shows, have valet, and are managed well, from what I can tell. I don't know about their staging/equipment/production issues, though. No problem EVER in getting a question answered, finding a security dude or something to drink at a HOB...so that makes me go there. The ladies' bathrooms are always nicely maintained, too, although my friend Shel is STILL complaining about the attendant asking her for $ for handing her a paper towel.  I WISH I still had my HOB's "Foundation Room" membership, 'cos that rocked big-time.

LiveNation/HOB did just email me a concert follow-up survey (nice!), through which I mentioned the issues cited here and a request for more seating at 30+ shows.  Maybe they'll listen...

We played for 2 hrs 05mins in Chicago,K.

Johan, the oral solution is sometimes the best alternative.
BTW, if you're referring to the puppies I think you are, they lived in Milwaukee for 10 years and know it well.  Lots of great restaurants.  They would be happy to go out with the Asia care department - say the word!  They check email on a regular basis.

He treated us like true friends, for at least 20 minutes or more. Thank you Goddess for all your kindness, Tyler kept making remarks on how cool you are, and was equally impressed with Rising (Dick) Dragon and Allen82 saying how they are such "sharp guys". It was great meeting all of you.  I wish I would have arrived earlier to chat and even meet Johan himself, hopefully next time.

Next time, I need to park on the rail either to the left or right of Tyler.  He is one tall guy!

Hopefully Asia will make it's way back to SW Florida in the near future and the Chicago version of the Rail Riders can use that as an excuse to escape somewhere warm and sunny.  I would be happy to coordinate a get together.

Hopefully we can all meet up again sometime.

Sounds like a plan Allen.  We'll all crash at your house after the show!

Hey!  Can the Indy Rail Riders come too?  We were trained by the best.  I think we can handle it!

Absolutely!

When I told my wife that I met a bunch of cool people who also loved Asia, Yes, ELP, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Rush and ELO (plus a few more groups we talked about) she replied - "You mean there are more people like you out there?!"

Anyway, I'm hoping to some day get Johan and Steve's autograph on the dragon poster now that Geoff and Carl have signed it.  Maybe I will then frame it and hang it right in the middle of our living room to my wife's delight.

Umm.. yes and no.  Gotta remember too, besides the fans coming out for the show, the HOB is located Downtown and people do live here!  In high rise condos/Apartments/townhouses/etc,etc....  So for them $38 cover, $ 9 drink x???=$$$$$ and to them it's like US spending $5 at McDOnalds for a meal.   In other words, it's Sunday night and and some bored Yuppie goes to HOB to kill the time and the money they dropped is nothing to them.

Sad but true.
