Now I know what I'm going to visit first if I ever go to Yokohama.
The only other think I know about the place is Yokohama Marinos.

Now we just need the boots from the Go video. I always liked those for some reason.

Congrats John, well deserved I must say and long over due. Don't ever give up those Taurus Pedals though!

Hey John... but that means that you won't play the legendary bass anymore?
To be honest I prefer that such a "Holy Graal" of music would be in your hands instead of in any "museum"...
Anyway is good to know that you're considered a rock God!

Cool and congrats...

I'm kind of with Francesco on this one: I cringe when I hear about beautifully made instruments that are in private collections (unplayed) or in museums behind glass (whether they are temperature and humidity and light controlled or otherwise...).

While many are beautiful pieces of art visually, their real beauty is in their resonance: if they ain't vibrating with music, well...

On the other side, rock does seem to need to take iconic items and celebrate them. And obviously Johan deserves to be in there (not behind the glass, that is. Unless they poked holes in the lid. That's always important.)

If only they'd just settled on taking the leather pants.

A.

So Sexy and I can go world hopping to visit, eh?

Truth be told, they do lose something of their appeal and charm "out of context", and I would much rather see the artist than the gear.  But I am still happy for you, John - the folks at Hard Rock have good taste, in my mind.

What are the rules for borrowing back the donated equipment for tours? I can remember when Chris Squire had his triple neck bass at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. Sometimes I'd go in and see it, and other times the space would be empty except for a sign that said something like "Now on tour with Yes."  Maybe Johan could sometimes take the bass on tour with him and put the leather pants in the empty space?

Any chance that we'll be able to see some pictures of the display once it is enshrined?

I'd love to see pictures too

Pat,I was at the NYC Hardrock recently and the Squire bass has been replaced on the wall by Billy Joel's hair.

Forgive me, but...er...

Isn't the Jazz Bass in question a 1973 model...?

Bound neck, block inlays - black.... all hallmarks for a 1973 build Jazz....

*shrugs*

Not sure about the Bass,Henny, but it was Billy Joel's real hair, like it wasn't from a singer in a cover band.

Hair?  That is just ever so slightly weird - not particularly appetizing to look at either I should imagine ...  How is it displayed - loose, or in a bun?   Will he be requiring it back any time soon? - hair today ....

PS Is bass on the menu?

PPS Great though that Mr W's playing has been recognized to the extent that his guitars are now classified iconic - although I'm with G1 with the sentiment they are better played than hanging up on display.

I hope someone posts a picture of the display!  Is the bass guitar placed strategically on top on the leather trousers?

I see also one of John's Zons has been donated  to the online memorabilia collection of Hard Rock Café. It can be viewed here:

That certainly explains where Billy hair's went these past few years.
