I'm here...a day late and a dollar short as per usual!  Must admit that this one not only serves as an anthem at times, the exquisite use of said COWBELL sends me over the moon with pure joy and delight!!!  **sigh**

This particular lyric was written by John for the Family song Spanish Tide but he was not credited.  Please see the video and notice the lyric with a couple of words changed at 1:47,

This is similar to the lyric, "Cards fall, faces change, Cat's cunning shows," originally written for Starless by King Crimson and heard on live versions but then later used in Caesar's Palace Blues, although John was credited as a writer for Starless and CPB.

Wow!  Great find!  Thanks for sharing!  The difference being "will darken when I die", vs. "will darken when you die".  I love how this musical universe of John Wetton all ties in so nicely.

BTW - love the double neck guitar!

Yep that's it.  Listened to it again.  Still pretty cool how the lyric was reinvented later on.

One of the cruelest things you can do to a writer is to not credit him/her for their contribution/art. When I was approached for a possible Family reunion show, I turned it down flat-----for that reason alone. I can let it go , because it was my trusting naivety that led me to sign stuff over, and get shafted, but to then be asked to  make money again for these people is anathema. there are a few people like that, primarily managers, of Family, Heep, '83 Asia----they cause me no lack of sleep, and I wish them no harm, but I would not p*** on them if they were on fire.

Dear John,

Did you tell them, the Family people, why you were turning them down?

Sounds like you might be the black sheep of the Family! har har!

I agree, give credit where credit is due!  But perhaps if they did give you credit, you wouldn't had felt compelled to use that famous "ring around the moon" lyricin OTWT, where imho it fits in much better!
