So I'm in San Franciso for work this week, and at lunch today, I went over to the San Francisco Art Exchange, which has a fairly substantial Roger Dean collection.  Asia-wise, in addition to the Asia Eyes print, they also had six or seven conceptual drawings of the Astra robot and album cover.

They had a much more substantial collection of Yes items, including the original artwork for the Relayer album (available for purchase at $2 million for the wealthier members of the guestbook), and original artwork for Yesterdays and Drama (at $365,000 and $220,000 for the less wealthy members of the guest book), plus a number of other Yes-related items, plust stuff for other bands.

I asked if they had any info on any Phoenix artwork, and the woman's response basically was "Oh, we'll have to call Roger about that."  Apparently, another dealer at the gallery had been out to his house, and the woman I was talking to must have met him, because she made the comment that Roger was incredibly nice and down to earth.  Apparently, Roger is coming out to the gallery for an exhibition later in the year, and the woman said she would send me an invite.

If anyone happens to live in or travel to San Francisco, it's worth checking out, and not just for the Roger Dean stuff.  Most of the cool stuff is not on display, but they were happy to take me upstairs to show me around.  Their website is http://www.sfae.com if anyone wants to check it out.

Thanks for the info.  Does anyone know whether Roger has a collection book available?  I would love to get a book that has all his print ideas both for Yes and Asia, plus others.

Yes Allen, I purchased a copy of his book 'Magnetic Storm' in the late 80's ( Highly recommended). I would believe he has published more by now? His first book book 'Views', has been out of print since the early 80's.

Thanks for the link and the info! We definitely want to visit the gallery. I wish I had 2 million dollars for the original "Relayer" art. My husband would die over it.

ps ~ I want to go upstairs in the gallery and see "most of the cool stuff" too. Did you have to ask for a tour?

Actually, I just sort of wandered upstairs, although I'm not sure I was supposed to be up there alone.  She was happy to show me around though.  It's kind of funny, because the Relayer photo, which was hanging on the wall, had slipped about an inch in the frame, and most of the rest of his work was all on the floor.

I have a copy of the Alpha Eyes in my office.

They watch me all the time, sort of like the Conservative Party at Parliament.

Gordo.

Amie:

Look at my avatar. Do I look like a man who knows the meaning of callipygian?
