But....but....but..... Poe was an amazing lyricist....he just never found the music. My Lost Lenore would have been a big hit!

Anybody know of any other (relatively well-known) musicians that were born and/or raised in the Baltimore area than Frank Zappa or Ric Ocasek?  I know that Tori Amos grew up there and attended Peabody when she was a young child prodigy (youngest ever to get a scholarship there).  I mention Zappa if only because of his musical connections with Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio, who in turn are musically connected with JW

David Byrne
Cab Calloway
Cass Elliot
David Hasselhoff
Greg Kihn
Tupac Shakur

Now we're way off topic.

Eubie Blake hailed from B'more (ragtime composer/pianist)

Bill, we just went to an O's game on Friday night.  We actually root for the Red Sox, though

We passed Poe's gravesite on the way.  Hence the name Baltimore RAVENS ... but the literary reference is the only semblance of class that team's got

Did anyone see the US Women's team versus North Korea in World Cup play? It was a well played game by both but #20, Abby Wambach is just incredible! Probably the best flash forward in the game since Mia Hamm retired. She collided on a header that took her out, the US played down with 10 players just not to lose her to a sub. They stitched her up and back she came. Korea scored twice when she was out. Not sure about the strategy but she is just incredible to watch and a superior athlete and role model! And NJ girl Heather O'Reilly scored the tying goal for the US. Great game to see if they replay it. Catch it if you can!

And when my daughter says her fav soccer player is Abby Wambach, I think of Marty Feldman grabbing the "Abby-Normal," brain from the laboratory.

The German women gave the Argentina ladies a thrashing last night (yes, that must have been worth staying up for). 11-0, and one had to feel for the drop-dead gorgeous and fit (also completely, utterly, uselessly gauche) Argentinian goalkeeper. England plays Japan today.

Apologies if this sounds sexist..do the girls use a full size, properly inflated ball? It's just that Japans equalizer last night reminded me of a Peter Lorimer rocket.

I don't think there's an answer to that,Ric. Are the ladies' balls full size?
I,for one,hope not.

John..I agree. This needs clarifying. On the subject of free kicks and properly inflated balls did you notice what part of the anatomy the England wall protected?

After seeing the way Brazil spanked the Kiwis this morning, I suspect there were lots of balls in the mix. I mean, did you see the size of some of the players. I'd do a turn your head and cough on Formiga, just to be sure. I did not know the Geico caveman played footie.

As the father of two young ladies who play the sport, I really want my ladies to look like, er, ladies.
