I know no-one is in the slightest bit interested in footie here, but the team I have
loved and supported since conception (58 years)--Derby County-- today won the final of the play-offs to re-enter the Premiership--the top flight of our English Football League.

Thats gotta be great news. However not many here like Nascar, but my driver went airborn at the Coke 600. Was nice to see that one of his team mates finally won his 1st race.

Hey Paulie - your driver must be mine as well. Tough break for JG, but he's still in the points lead! I work for one of his main sponsors, so it's doubly sweet when he wins - more ad time for the company... more business to keep my paychecks coming! Great to see Casey Mears get his first win - and good press for his National Guard sponsors on this Memorial Day weekend. Johan, can't say I'd heard of the Derby County Rams, but good on 'em to advance up a level. I had the pleasure of watching Dortmund beat Shalke two weeks ago in a little German pub. Great first-hand exposure to the fervor of the world's most popular sport outside these US of A!

John: My daughter is a pretty fair striker in her own right and a big Premier / FA Premier League footie fan. We have a lot of fun watching it here on Fox. Specifically, she is a fan of Paul Peschisolido and even has a personalized jersey of his that I got for her. I think she likes the other FW as well...Fagan I think but I could be wrong. I'll probably catch flak for not knowing. Anyway, she likes the keeper as well (Lee Camp I think but I try and steer my girls away from those keepers, nothing but trouble!) I think PP played for Sheffield or Birmie, but I am probably wrong there too. I do know he hails from the Great White North. Nonetheless, very cool to see the Rams having some overdue success. Pride Park must be rockin'! JK

I'm happy for you that your team has won, John. I've supported the four Philadelphia sports teams my whole life and currently we are in the longest championship drought of any city in the country. The last championship of any Philadelphia sports team was an NBA championship in June 1983. Since then, there has been over 90 consecutive Philly sports seasons amongst the baseball, basketball, football and hockey teams without a championship.

WC: Being a Met fan, I could be shot for saying this but I'm much more worried about your Phillies this year than the Braves. Hopefully my Amazins keep rolling and put some distance on Ryan H. and the boys. Went to college in SJ and was there when Philly won the Series in '80. Good fun, what I can remember! JK

Johan, that's great news! Congrats. I was just at a MLS (major league soccer) game this weekend - the Chicago Fire played Real Salt Lake. One of my sons loves the game, and has decided that he wants to play pro someday. So "football" is alive and well in America, even if we don't know the proper name to call it...

Paul P is a canuck,I believe,Fagan plays for Derby, and their manager, described in my morning newspaper as "St.Vitus in a suit",Billy Davies,is a Scot who looks, and acts, like he's permanently three venti espressos doppios up on the rest of us,has turned the fortunes of the once-colossal midlands club, who recently hit the doldrums, back into the theater of hope it was for this shy,angst-ridden teenager.
If the day ever dawns,Francesco, when fate decrees that Inter and Derby will meet, then so shall we.

Johan and Francesco: A great year for both teams. Must admit, I am a Celtic fan from way back in my college days and by heritage of my father's influence so I was happy they won the Scottish Cup for a 34th time against Dunfermline 1-0. We should keep a footie thread going, always lots to talk about. I'll give you the scoop once Becks gets going out here with the Galaxy in between his shopping sprees with TomKat and Posh. JK

Talking of WAGs.
Has anyone seen (used?) a Prada cell phone? I'll bet Posh has a gold one.
I friend of mine pulled one out at lunch the other day. $800.
'What does it do for 800 buckaroos,I asked her. 'It stores your phone book alphabetically". I rest my case,m'lud.

For $800 it should make your phone calls and do your laundry. Yikes!!

No clue on the Prada but know who probably has one. Paris is first up, then Lindsay Lohan and the Brit-Meister. Johan, if short on WAG's, I am sure we could set up a cultural exchange. Paris for Posh swap. Honestly, Paris is going to jail and Lindsay jumps rehab and crashes her car while DUI. I just hope they can get some support and help. It's seems no one is telling these kids that life is not a game. I hope they pull out of these nose drives and recover with the help and love from their families and friends. I still remember Lohan as the cute, freckle faced kid from the Parent Trap. Time flies, sad stuff. JK
