No,Amie--by golly, I think you may be onto something there. Our soccer players are forever taking their shirts off,but it doesn't do anything for me. Mia Hamm? I got there in the end---with the crossword----I remember that.

Me thinks the player minus the shirt may have been Brandi Chastain. Mia is far too modest and I think that would be a no, no with Nomar Garciaparra, he of the of golden glove and nervous twix of Dodger-Land aka hubby number two.

Sarge, agree with your point but baseball is an off shoot of cricket, basketball is of Mayan descent, hockey has its roots in Europe and football hails from rugby. Dare I say it, NASCAR may be an exception but even that hails from the early road races in France, Germany and Italy in the early 1900's.

Soccer is one of the only sports that has come largely intact, lock, stock and barrel from across the pond and to your point. Internationally, we are in the minority on this one.

You see why I used the term refined.
We must stand up for our minority rights!

I'm waiting for the NFL season to start -- especially my beloved Steelers, who play in the Hall of Fame game in less than a month.  Different version of footie for sure, but they're my hometown boyz.  Pittsburgh's back up QB, Charlie Batch, went to my high school.

Something must clearly be wrong with me. Reason I ask, I watched this new Victoria Beckham reality show last night. I know, I know but my kids love Becks so I was corralled into watching for the 6 minutes or so he actually appeared.

While I am tiring of the whole reality show genre, she was actually engaging, witty and came off being proud of being superficial, trite and a supreme ass kisser (see when she went for her LA driving test). In short, it was very entertaining in a train wreck sort of way. LA made her look like a normal working mom, house hunting in a strange land so that her hubby and sons can join her in a few weeks. Oh, and that they are looking at $15 million mansions, shopping sprees on Rodeo Drive and trips to a local XXX shop for a blow up doll to act as a decoy so she can house hunt in anonymity. Brilliant TV, right up there with Celebrity Fit Club and the Search for Al Capone's Vault.

I really wanted to hate it, but it won me over. Again, what's wrong with me! What's next, a front row seat at a Spice Girls concert?

Compare how much Rams spent in the close season with Spurs. Not making excuses--we always knew it would be tough, but as you said, a long time till May....

It seems Barça pre-season with Henry (and still with Eto'o, JW ) is going quite fine, in opposition to Real Madrid's. But we'll have the exact measure of our level in Aug'29 against Internazionale, Francesco, so I think we'll be watching TV at the same time. I think it will be worth the viewing.

I watched Barcelona play Dundee United in a pre season game, which was actually Henry's first game for the club. I am a Dundee fan not a Dundee United fan but I thought United played very well and that Barcelona were lucky to win via a late penalty which was very soft. I dont think Barcelona were match fit. Ronaldinho did a few tricks, rattled the bar and played ok. Henry did not get great service. Deco was disappointing as was E'to and Thuram, but the guy who looked very good was a big black guy who played defensive centre midfield, not sure of his name.

I guess that was Eric Abidal (or maybe Toure Yaya), still don't know the faces. You're right, the playing wasn't spectaculary good , Deco hasn't been so good the last two seasons (perhaps time to go to Italy), Thuram is sooo slow lately and Henry is still recovering quite a bit. Nonetheless, I think the team should grow with time if known all-star egos laziness don't show up this time, let's hope.

Deco in Italy?
I hope my INTER would grab him before someone else do!
Deco is a world class player.

Hm. Methinks if Mr. Goldenballs were to play with no shirt for awhile, viewership would spike...that's just a guess, of course. I'm sure if he needed the money, he could probably sell ad space on each nipple for a fee....welcome to America, Becks!

If he truly is Mr. Goldenballs, should he sell ad space on his nipples?  Dunno the answer, just askin'.
