Apparently, you can attend Carnegie Mellon University on full scholarship if you major in bagpipes.  No kidding.  I told my partner at work that we should audition for it, but then I could just hear our conversation:  "Hey!  Quit touching my bladder!"  "I will if you keep your hands off my pipes!"  We are juvenile and silly, but then, I consider those traits some of our finer points, sometimes.

Agreed! There is a natural order to that sort of thing. I used to tell my children that they could tell me anything, but they must not shock their grandmother into an early grave!

This is what I found about the caber toss

The most prominent theory surrounding the origin of the caber toss is that of crossing the stream. The caber was tossed from one side of the river to the other to allow people to cross. This is why the caber is tossed for accuracy, rather than distance.

There is a local farmer who tosses a caber called jock strapp. He likes to protect his pole.

Yep, the CMU bagpipes scholarship was the brunt of many a joke growing up in Pittsburgh!

And pleasure? I guess THAT'S where the accuracy part is most important!

WAIT!!!!

I'm still working on this.

There is a guy out there who would throw his pole across the river for you to walk across and call it a pleasure...  And then do a quantitative summary of the accuracy???? Sainthood is in order!

Sainthood or at least a romantic dinner for two.

Just to keep the record straight, we dont go about tossing our cabers every day in life. That is left to a select few who tend to show up at highland games looking like they have just been shooting a porridge advert.
I was reading a trivia book a few weeks ago and it suggested that the following items did not originate from Scotland:-
Porridge
Kilts
Bagpipes
Haggis
Scots (seemingly they were an Irish clan)
And of course Rod Stewart.

How about Mr. Scott from Star Trek?  And the Bay City Rollers?  Does Scotland lay claim to the above?  What about Mel Gibson's broadsword from "Braveheart"?  Just askin'.

JK, saints don't (at least in RECORDED history) often partake in romantic dinners for two... more's the pity.
