VH1 Save the Music Foundation is having a special 10th Anniversary gala concert at Lincoln Center tonight.  The Roger Waters Band will be doing a song, which of course include are dear Kinky Kilminster on guitar.  The event is sold out, and the VH1 TV schedule doesn't show it being broadcast.  Hoping they'll show it at a later time (after editing, no doubt!).

Dunno.  Nothing on Dave's site either.  Since it's about education in the schools, methinks that 'Another Brick in the Wall' ("We don't need no education") might be obtusely appropriate.

Since this is the JW GB, I should say I saw Chester Thompson and friends last night. Truly top notch musicianship, but that should be no surprise. I might have chosen something different for the encore but, overall, the setlist offered a nice sampling of Genesis through the years.

Kim:

Was it that chugging, mambo line number that fueled their last studio album? I go this week and want to know if I can hit the tunnel early to beat the traffic. I LOVE the Genesee boys but that song is like having musical giants closing with "Chopsticks" or "Heart and Soul."  Say it ain't so!

Glad you saw them in good form, Kim.  The reviews I heard and read from the Montreal show this past weekend were abysmal!  Then again, Olympic Stadium is hardly an acoustically optimal venue.  Some folks felt they were phoning it in, especially on the early stuff.

JK...the mambo line was the first of two tunes.  While I don't care for the song (or that album), it wasn't bad to watch the "choreography" live.  They were having fun. The second was a "classic" but, IMO, too slow for the last song of the night. I like to feel a bit energized as I'm leaving a venue. Everyone in my row thought we had the encore nailed, but we were wrong.

There is no room for subtlety or nuance in the stadia----I think one must accept that when one goes to a sports arena. It's broad strokes, big picture, ghastly acoustics, and every song distilled to Boot Camp sing-along. I missed the second encore as Dylan was asleep, we left as the anticipation was building with the throb.
I thought they did very well at this (the throb was used a great deal to keep the interest-level ramped-up),but I'd like to have seen the same show in a theatre.
99% of the audience love it (I won't go into 'why'),and it's a doddle for purists and critics to tear to pieces.
I've said before that I really enjoyed the show, andPhil is one of the few that can pull that gig off. He's awesome.

Thanks Kim, looking forward to it! I never thought I'd see them together again so this is just gravy, whatever they play. I love Phil, he's a great showman and I hear he plays 2/3's of the set behind the kit so we get to see one of the best at his best.

just wanted to know is the "Chugging Mambo Line" = "Turn It On Again" ??? or "I Can't Dance" ???   I have a DVD I got on-line from a show Genesis just played in Dusseldorf.. 6/27/2007 .. the set-list is beyond awesome and they open the show with a salute to "Duke" then its right into "Turn It On Again".I believe one of  the encores  is "I Cant Dance" ..   I hope the set-list does not change, I see them in 1 w33k!!

I saw Genesis last nite in NYC. Anyone going will not be disappointed.
The hi lite for me was "In Your Wardrobe."
It's always been Ethyl.
Daryl Strummer's steurming was incredible on "Firth of Fifth, but it was all instrumental.
Why? I know that John does it better but it's one of Genesis' classics.
There was no drum solo but there was a drum duo or duet.
Neither drummer wore a Mac.
Sammy, Genesis owned face last nite,Dood or I owned face, not really sure how that goes.

Thanks,Sammy and when they play Chitown,I'm sure you will give a better in depth review than I have.
I didn't want to give away much of the setlist.
