Just wondering what ever became of that ASIA fan club/newsletter and it's originator Mike Stollery. I'd heard some good and not so good things about it and him over the years.

Yes, I was a subscriber. Briefly in 1992, thru a friend in Chicago. I paid a modest fee for a 1 year subscription. The first edition arrived, with a picture of a stranger, wearing  a huge dorky top hat. I immediately realized  it was something Wetton was not a part of , thus ending my interest with everything involved.

I remember being a subscriber but I thought it went bye bye after Then and Now.  It was such a long time ago I can't remember.  I know it just ended out of the blue.

It is kind of interesting where we come from for information.  The dark ages of mailings and fan clubs to the internet age and a closer contact to the muses themselves.

He changed his name to Michael Stollaire.  My experience with him in the early 90's was similar to everyone elses (bad).

Check him out below.

Well I'll be damned that is him. I didn't have any bad experiences, but he lived about 60 miles from my hometown and I used to see him at record shows from time to time and then he just fell off the face of the earth so to speak. I did hear several years ago that people who had subscribed to his newsletter/fanzine had sent in money and never gotten anything back. It didn't seem like he was that type of a guy, but I didn't know him that well. Thanks RGarah.

I never had a problem with Mike S. but I know several people who did. They paid their money and received nothing.
If he did everything on the up and up, then why did he change his name?

The publication was crap, and the man in question was a tool.  Not to mention the subject matter was not Asia.  It's gone and forgotten for good....just like the years 92-2005.  The Phoenix has arisen and we couldn't be happier! Thank You gentlemen.

Just so we're clear...I'm not trying to start any battles over the different versions of the band. I was just wondering if anyone ever subscribed to this fanzine. Only because I kind of knew the guy, he did do a pretty good interview with Johan in '93/'94, and Dave G. thanked him in the liner notes of his first ASIA bio....that is all.

The same thing happened with the Def Leppard fan club in the early 80's. Tons of people I went to school with sent in their money orders and never heard a word again. I think we all lost maybe $12 each so it wasn't the money ~ it was just the let down. Meanwhile, I had friends that joined Queensryche's club when they were starting out and they got passes to meet the band and letters from the guitarist's mother. I was truly bummed that I didn't join that club after I saw all the fun everyone else had.

Thanks - I just think personal attacks aren't necessary.  If you didn't like it, just disregard it.  And believe me, over the past 2 plus years, most have forgotten it
